One of the few ballads on Teenage Dream, in parts of “Not Like the Movies,” especially the second verse, Perry sounds a little similar to songstresses Norah Jones and Adele.
Perry takes the listener to another world with with mentions of “alien” and “supernatural, extraterrestrial” and special sound effects. The singer brings things down a beat with the slower-tempo “Who Am I Living For?” and seems to concentrate more on her vocals. The slower pace continues with “Pearl,” a song with a surprise twist and empowering ending. The upbeat “Hummingbird Heartbeat” brings back the lighthearted, carefree feelings.
More Teenage Dream Tunes
“Peacock” is like a mix between Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” and Britney Spears’ “If You Seek Amy.” Its cleverly in your face lyrics do not really leave what Perry’s singing about to the imagination.
Anger turns to regret with “The One That Got Away [link widoczny dla zalogowanych],” a song with a strong background beat. The sweet sorrow returns the album back to its earlier message of young love, except this time with an unhappy outcome.
The sweet, happy times head south with “Circle the Drain.” And with particularly hard-hitting words in the chorus, Katy Perry freely expresses her anger with an ex. Sound matches lyrics as the music and Perry’s singing gradually grow softer at the end of the song, until fading completely. One can hear the relationship end as it goes down the drain.
“Last Friday Night could do without the saxophone solo near the end, but a pleasing beat compensates for those few bars. And with lyrics like “That was such an epic fail,” Perry sings in a way most teens and twenty-somethings can relate to.
Teenage Dream is a satisfying follow-up to Katy Perry’s 2008 release, One of the Boys, and might just be a pop music listener’s dream.
One of summer’s most popular anthems, “California Gurls,” featuring rapper Snoop Dogg, spent several weeks at the top of Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart. It also hit number one on the iTunes singles chart, and as of August 2010, has sold over three million copies. The catchy, fun, and upbeat first single expresses good times, a sentiment which is continually described throughout much of the album.
The twenty-five-year-old pop star shows off her vocals with the dance club vibe refrain in “Firework,” where she encourages the listener to “show’em what your worth. Make ‘em go, ‘Oh, oh [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], oh!’ as you shoot across the sky-y-y.”
Pop star Katy Perry, with previous hits like “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot N Cold” delivers once again with her new CD, Teenage Dream, which offers even more catchy pop tunes.
Second Single: Teenage Dream
Second single “Teenage Dream” celebrates young love and is enjoying its own success on iTunes and Billboard. Katy Perry displays her trademark confidence and promises she will get “your heart racing in my skintight jeans.” And, at the very least, she will probably get listeners singing along with the infectious tune and reminiscing about their own teenage dreams and days of youth and innocence.
