When I was growing up, we always made Snow Cream when we had enough snow on the ground to scoop up a bowl of the white stuff. Send kids out to get snow. Tell them not to get snow off the car or any snow that looks less than white. The best bet is to wipe off the top layer and then get snow better that layer and the ground layer but not going all the way to the ground. The amount of snow can vary. Tell the kids to aim for about as much snow as the size of a basketball.
Mix all of the above together except for the food coloring and snow. Keep cold until the snow is gathered.
